  • Calcium and phosphate absorption from the food in intestines. Calcium and phosphate are vital for building and maintaining strong bones and teeth.

  • Vitamin D is essential for bone density and strength and its deficiency can lead to osteoporosis and rickets.

  • Vitamin D helps build immunity, and fight off infections.

  • It is important for nerve health and functioning.

  • Vitamin D also helps regulate the mood.



What happens if Vitamin D is deficient in the body?


Vitamin D deficiency in children causes rickets which presents with muscle weakness, skeletal deformities, delayed growth, bone pain, delayed milestones. 

In adults it presents with fatigue, muscle pain, constant tiredness, mood changes, frequent infections, hair loss, slow wound healing, pale skin. Not treating the deficiency leads to osteoporosis, where the bone density reduces and leads to easy breakage of bones.
